Removal of Vulval Lesions

What is vulval lesion?

Vulval lesions are raw or swollen patches of skin on the vulva (the opening of the vagina).

How is an excision of a vulval lesion performed?

This procedure can be performed under local or general anaesthetic and usually takes around 20 minutes.  An excision is made around part or all of the affected area and the tissue sent for further examination under a microscope to determine the cause of the lesion.  Dissolving stitches are then used to close the wound.

Where is this procedure performed?

Removal of vulval lesions can be performed in our purpose built treatment room at The Surrey Park Clinic, under local anaesthetic, or under general anaesthetic performed at a local private hospital.
