Fertility Scan Fertility Clinic

Fertility Scans

Reasons for having a fertility scan

  • To investigate reasons for intertility.
  • To monitor a natural or assisted fertility cycle.

What we are looking for

  • Ovaries

To see if they are healthy and likely to produce eggs

    • Polycystic ovaries (PCOS)
    • Large cysts or endometriosis
    • Absent ovaries
    • Absent follicles developing
  • Fallopian Tubes

To see if there is a blockage

    • Swollen tubes (sign of blockage)
  • Uterus

To see abnormalities which might prevent the implantation of an embryo

    • Development e.g. bicornuate uterus
    • Septum in the uterus
    • Fibroids of adenomyosis within the uterine wall
    • Lining of the uterus - too thin (leads to poor implantation), too thick (evidence of abnormal hormones)
    • Uterine polyps (prevents implantation by acting like a coil)
  • Management
    • Follicle tracking scans - This involves measurement of developing follicles within the ovaries throughout a cycle without ovulation induction e.g. Clomiphene or Menopur. This measurements also include the endometrial thickness (lining of the uterus) as this will influence whether the embryo will be able to implant.
    • Luteal Cyst - This should develop in the second half of the cycle after ovulation and absence of a luteal cyst indicates no ovulation.

Fees

Gynae Scan (Pelvic Scan), £213 per scan

Fertility/Follicle Tracking Scan, £92 per scan
